The Story of the 1000 Islands
Episode 5: World War 1 - Leek Island
In partnership with: 1000 Islands History Museum, Town of Gananoque, Government of Canada
War changes everything — even the 1000 Islands. During World War I, Leek Island became a sanctuary for wounded soldiers, thanks to the compassion of Ira and Katherine Kip. The Animazia team discovers how a summer home was transformed into a military hospital, providing not only care, but peace, joy, and healing. It’s a powerful chapter of community strength and wartime resilience that echoes through to today, throughout the Thousand Islands Region.
This MOM (Multimedia Outreach Module) video is the fifth in a series created in partnership with the Town of Gananoque, Government of Canada, 1000 Islands History Museum and Kidoons, in association with The 20K Collective.
