The Story of the 1000 Islands
Episode 3: Fur Trade to Factories
In partnership with: 1000 Islands History Museum, Town of Gananoque, Government of Canada
From beaver pelts to battlefields, the team traces how the fur trade, Loyalist settlers, and the War of 1812 shaped Gananoque's origins. They meet early colonists like Joel Stone, explore the town’s defences during an American raid, and witness the birth of a busy industrial hub. As Paddy wrestles with the awkward legacy of the trade in beaver fur, he finds some surprising pride in beaver ingenuity.
This MOM (Multimedia Outreach Module) video is the third in a series created in partnership with the Town of Gananoque, Government of Canada, 1000 Islands History Museum and Kidoons, in association with The 20K Collective.
